Digital Humanities has become one of the fastest growing areas of research in the humanities in recent years, with the founding of major international organizations, yearly mega-conferences, and a host of centers and projects, mainly in Europe and North America, but also in other parts of the world.
To date, the digitization of translation studies has mainly centered around corpus linguistics, both for practical translation (most translation software depend on large corpora to generate results) and research (the work of Mona Baker, Maeve Olohan and others in this field was pioneering). However, other forms of digitally-aided research have not yet made a significant impact on translation studies.
The Centre for Translation Technologies at CUHK will thus convene a workshop on translation studies and/in the Digital Humanities which will attempt to conceptualize how both corpus-based and other forms of digital technologies can advance the field of translation studies today, with an eye to identifying potential areas for future research and cooperation with partner institutions.
